Everything in life starts with an idea and then someone, or sometimes multiple people put that idea into action.
There is always someone that leads the path to every idea, product, system and so on. Leaders curate ideas and then put those ideas into action.
What is a leader?
What are the qualities of a leader?
How does a leader find success?
Through my years of education, entrepreneurship, being a CEO and influencer I have learned there isn’t always a direct answer to those questions. There are so many different kinds of leaders that all lead in different ways.
I’ve seen that individual tasks are meant for separate kinds of leaders.
Certain industries are meant for unique leadership styles.
No one leader is alike. There is no exact method for success when it comes to being a leader.
What I do know is that all successful and true leaders share a few particular qualities that set them apart from the rest. Here’s a few of them:
Taking ownership of their world- Successful leaders own up to their success and mistakes. They never ever play victim. Good leaders have seen enough and experienced enough to know that life happens for them, not to them.
Doing the right thing when nobody is watching – They aren’t helping others, or doing something good for the glory of it or the pat on the back. They do these things because they know it’s the right thing. Successful leaders are looking to help others and make a difference.
Setting a new standard for themselves everyday- They know life is too short to play small, they know they have to play big or go home! But don’t be fooled, good leaders know that this isn’t a competition. They are not trying to one up others leaders and beat them, they are trying to be the best version of themselves.
Focusing on yourself- Good leaders know they have to inspire and motivate themselves before they can do the same for others. It is important to do this through picking one or two big goals in order to establish alignment (remember alignment = velocity). Then obsess over those goals, and ramp up the enthusiasm in order to get their team behind you.
Stay humble – There’s no room for extreme ego and entitlement in leadership. Those things allow leaders to be vulnerable, rigid and complacent which will ultimately lead them away from the path to success.
Do you see these qualities in yourself?
If you do, you’re on the right path. If you don’t, there’s time to make change but you have to make the change yourself.
You can’t be a leader until you lead yourself. The change starts now.
